Record number of organisations apply for Norec’s grants
16. September 2025
For the second year in a row, Norec has received a record number of applications for grants supporting international cooperation. This year, Norec received 144 applications, compared to 80 in 2024.
“We are very pleased with the high number of applications. It shows that more organisations recognise the value of our exchange model,” says Sille Lukowski, Head of Section — NGOs.
According to Lukowski, this trend has been clear in the recent weeks.
— We have received many inquiries lately, also from organisations we have not been in contact with before.
The Result of Targeted Work
Lukowski points to several reasons for the increase in applications.” We have actively promoted the grants on social media, while also working strategically in selected countries. These efforts are paying off, as we now see applications from, for example, Ghana, a country which has been a target for us,” Lukowski says.
She adds that it is encouraging to see applications from organisations in countries that have not applied before.
Among this year’s applicants are organisations from Congo, South Sudan, Morocco, Argentina and the Philippines.
“This shows that our outreach has reached a wide audience and attracted new groups of potential applicants”, Lukowski says.
The record number of applications may also be linked recent major cuts in international aid. These may have led organisations to look for new funding opportunities and discover Norec’s grants.
“In addition, we have improved the application process. It is now easier to apply and involves less unnecessary double work,” Lukowski explains.
A unique programme
Lukowski is pleased with the strong interest and says the high number of applications underlines the importance of international cooperation across borders and continents.
“Our programme is unique. We facilitate international cooperation and knowledge exchange between partners worldwide,” she says.
