This exchange programme on Primary Health Care is between Melhus kommune in Norway and Taveta Sub County in Kenya. The partners focus on issues relating to their citizens entire lifespan: from antenatal, postnatal and newborn care, to school health services, and improved services to elderly citizens and citizens with special needs. By working in primary healthcare, the exchange participants will gain experience from how their host partner execute their services and acquire new knowledge and skills.
The six individuals set to exchange from each organisation will all work in healthcare services of their host organisation. Melhus kommune in Norway is set to recruit authorised health professionals that are can be real support in providing healthcare, especially in terms of knowledge transfer of home based services in the health sector, Taveta are set to recruit authorised community health nurses. These exchange participants generally have solid experiences in home based services working with the patients from newborns to elderly.
The overall goals for this project is to implement knowledge and skills in antenatal, postnatal and newborn care on a household level; improve school health service; improve values and social positions for people with special needs and the elderly; improved service to people with special needs regarding reduction in need for institutionalized care for elderly people; increased participation of persons with special care needs in volunteer work.
