Intercultural communication series: Part three - Conflict resolution and transformation
Why do misunderstandings in intercultural communication sometimes escalate into conflict?
Conflict is a common and often unavoidable part of human interaction, from the personal level to relations between states. Today, it is shaped by factors such as disinformation, political polarisation, growing economic inequality, weakened social safety nets, and climate change. At the same time, business, travel, and technology are increasing intercultural contact. This makes strong skills in intercultural communication and conflict resolution more important than ever.
We need tools not only to navigate conflict, but also to help build a world where human dignity is respected. While conflict cannot be avoided, it can be managed and, in some cases, transformed.
