Akershus universitetssykehus (AHUS)

The partnership between Akershus University Hospital (Norway) and Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences/Bugando Medical Centre (Tanzania) aims to strengthen reproductive, maternal and newborn healthcare. The project will improve the quality of obstetric and gynaecological care, and strengthen the skills of healthcare professionals.

Both institutions bring complementary expertise to the partnership.
- CUHAS/BMC has extensive experience in treating large numbers of women and newborns, including managing obstetric emergencies in a setting with limited resources.
- AHUS has expertise in specialist training, simulation-based learning, advanced obstetric care and quality improvement.

Healthcare professionals need the right knowledge and skill to provide high-quality care, prevent complications and improve care for women and newborns. The project will therefore strenghten healthcare professional’s skills in reproductive and maternal health. This includes: Fetal monitoring, obstretic ultrasound, emergency obstretic care, operative deliveries and simultation based training.

The project will particularly focus on institutional learning, clinical mentoring and including improved practices in spesicalist training programmes.
