Norec Network
Of former exchange participants
The Norec Network is a place to share experiences and develop new ideas – a network for the future.
Since 1963, more than 12,000 people have taken part in exchanges through Norec. Just imagine how much you can learn from each other!
About the Network
Since 1963, Norec has enabled 12,000 people to take part in exchange programmes worldwide. Through these exchanges, participants have shared knowledge and contributed to making the world a better place.
The idea for the Network came when we asked ourselves:
How can we make better use of the knowledge our former participants have gained?
The answer was simple: create a Network where they can meet, stay in touch, and continue sharing knowledge across borders.
The Network was launched in Nairobi, Kenya, in May 2023. By February 2025, 2,200 former participants had joined – and the number is growing every day.
By joining the Network, you will have access to:
- Webinars
- Online courses
- A LinkedIn group
- Monthly newsletters
- Online and in-person gatherings

Do you have any questions? Haven’t received an invitation to join the Network? Or perhaps you have an idea for how we can develop the Network further?

People of Norec Network
The Norec Network has members from all over the world, with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Through «People of Norec Network» we wish to share some of their stories.
This is an opportunity for you to get to know more about our members. Where do they live today? What do they do for a living? What knowledge do they have that might be useful for you?
Country-based network
In addition to the global Norec network, we have set up country-based networks. For now, these are in Kenya, Malawi and Uganda.
Each network has its own board and works to create activities and share members’ expertise. The aim is to strengthen local engagement and help new initiatives take shape.
Every country-based network should run at least one activity a year, and most run several. Activities range from professional meet-ups to social events.
To stay in touch, the networks use WhatsApp groups and e-mail lists.
Do you live in one of these countries and want to join? E-mail network@norec.no and we will connect you.
Post-Exchange Initiative
New impulses and new knowledge often spark fresh ideas. The same is true for people who have taken part in a Norec work-exchange. But too often, good ideas end up in a drawer because there is no funding to put them into practice. Norec wants to change that.
With the Post-Exchange Initiative, we make it possible for some of these ideas to become reality. The grant scheme provides support for further cooperation after your exchange period has ended.
The initiative started as a pilot in 2024. Former exchange participants who had completed their stay in 2023 or 2024 could apply, and five projects received funding to turn their ideas into action.
This year, the scheme continues, with an application deadline of 1 October 2025.
