Big Five Personality Test

Before relocating to live and work in another country, taking a Big Five personality test can be beneficial. Here’s how you can utilise it.

Remember that personality is multifaceted, and individual differences exist. While the Big Five model provides valuable insights, context matters. Use the results as a starting point and combine them with other resources (such as cultural training) for a holistic approach to adapting to your new environment. 🌍🌟

The Big Five Personality Test consists of 120 questions and takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. But to gain something from the results we recommend to use it under guidance of a skilled facilitator – who has worked in a multicultural setting. The reflections will take much longer than the ten minutes. Some examples can be discussions around the following:

  • Self-Reflection and Awareness

    • Understand your own personality traits better.
    • Identify your strengths and areas for growth.
    • Recognise how you typically behave in various situations.
  • Cultural Adaptation

    • Compare your personality profile with the cultural norms of the destination country.
    • Learn about the local communication styles, social expectations, and workplace dynamics.
    • Adapt your behavior to fit within the new cultural context.
  • Interpersonal Relationships

    • Anticipate how your personality may interact with others.
    • Build effective relationships with colleagues, neighbors, and friends.
    • Navigate potential cultural differences more smoothly.
  • Career Considerations

    • Assess how your traits align with the job requirements and organisational culture.
    • Choose a career path that suits your personality and values.
    • Prepare for interviews by highlighting relevant traits.
  • Stress Management

    • Recognise potential stressors based on your personality.
    • Develop coping strategies for challenges related to cultural adjustment.
    • Seek support or professional guidance if needed.
