Type of exchange
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
The exchange programme Tuko Pamoja between Fredrikstad Culture School in Norway and AC Mono in Mozambique aims to explore and develop competence in African and Western music, dance, and visual arts. Youth exchange participants will develop awareness and appreciation of their own culture, while also learning to appreciate another culture as a valuable resource. The project also aims to develop and strengthen cultural education, increasing the quality of teaching in music, dance and circus arts.
Exchange participants will be trained to run workshops for schoolchildren and youth and invited to share their new skills in art and music in local productions. Further, participants will develop and strengthen pre-existing networks within the local communities through outreach programs.
The project aims to allow youth participants to develop their skills in the arts. These new and improved skills will benefit the participants themselves, and will also make a difference for local organisations and communities as the participants begin to implement new curricula with a focus on quality of teaching. Kulturskolen I Fredrikstad will develop a pilot trainee programme, and AC Mono will develop a social and professional network of teaching and performing arts institutions around Maputo, enabling them to strengthen their education programmes in music and dance and providing them with skilled teaching artists. Mono will also develop their staff’s leadership abilities and promote the partnership with local and external institutions for increased visibility and exposure.
