The Sahakarya exchange aims at strengthening the capacity and leadership skills of volunteers, focusing especially on human rights. The exchange increases the participants’ awareness of human rights violations, and they learn how to understand, promote, and protect human rights. Participants carry out lobbying and advocacy work at local, subregional, and national levels. The main focus of the project is to digitize their archive systems, which they use to document human rights violations and monitor the human rights situation in their regions, but they will also cooperate on developing gender-friendly policies, as well as share best practicies on strengthening youth participation. The new perspectives and insights they gain while on exchange will be brought back to their home organisations.

The overall goal of the project is to strengthen youth capacity to tackle human rights situations through skill-building and technological solutions. It also aims to strengthen the regional collaboration between the partners in India and Nepal. People’s Vigilance Committee on Human Rights will focus specifically on developing tactics and strategies for community mobilisation, and increase advocacy skills among young volunteers. Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) will increase their volunteers» awareness on issues related to human rights, especially economic, social and cultural (ESC) rights, as well as strengthening evidence-based advocacy on human rights violations. Both aim to strengthen their organisations with new e-governance and digitisation systems, enhancing staff capacity to share human rights principles, skills, and tools to others within the region.
