Intercultural communication series: Part three – Conflict resolution and transformation
Why do misunderstandings in intercultural communication sometimes escalate into conflict?
Conflict is a common and often unavoidable part of human interaction, from the personal level to relations between states. Today, it is shaped by factors such as disinformation, political polarisation, growing economic inequality, weakened social safety nets, and climate change.
At the same time, business, travel, and technology are increasing intercultural contact. This makes strong skills in intercultural communication and conflict resolution more important than ever.
We need tools not only to navigate conflict, but also to help build a world where human dignity is respected. While conflict cannot be avoided, it can be managed and, in some cases, transformed.

About Norec
Norec is Norway’s competence centre for global partnerships. We have extensive experience in preparing professionals to work effectively across cultures.
Each year, we train hundreds of participants and partners in intercultural communication, context awareness, safety, and collaboration. Over the past decades, this has added up to many thousands.
Our approach is based on data from participant evaluations and long term partnerships. Our courses are designed to turn real world challenges from international cooperation into practical, evidence based learning.
This has given Norec unique insight into the patterns, misunderstandings, and cultural dynamics that shape global teamwork. It also shows how greater contextual awareness leads to better outcomes in international projects.
